Hip drop (Trendelenburg)

Also known as: contralateral pelvic drop

A downward tilt of the pelvis on the swing-leg side while the opposite foot is on the ground.

Why it matters

Hip drop is one of the strongest predictors of IT band syndrome and patellofemoral pain, and it's easy to miss without slow-motion rear-view video.

What it means

More than ~5° of pelvic drop in single-leg stance indicates weak gluteus medius. It is a top predictor of IT band syndrome and runner's knee, and is corrected with hip abductor strengthening — think side planks, clamshells, and single-leg glute bridges rather than more running volume.
